KING JOHN-TWO TIME LOSER is my latest novel about England's King John (1167-1216). I don't think he was any worse than any other of England's medieval kings, but his problem was that, to use modern parlance, he had a bad press. Unfortunately he succeeded his more glorious older brother, Richard the Lion-heart, who has always been held up as a great Christian hero. This was because he fought as a Crusader and tried to rescue the Holy land from the infidel. He failed. Despite his glorious reputation, Richard was also a lousy king for England. Out of the 10 years he sat on the throne, (1189-99) he spent only 6 months in England. He used the country merely for raising money for his crusades and didn't care a damn what happened to the country. The Church who wrote the histories/Chronicles then, put this good crusading king down as a "goodie," while John who had some problems with the Church, was painted as a "baddie." Anyway, you'll be able to learn more when the book comes out in Spring 2017, some 800 years after his unlamented death.
